No More Antacids for Me

I used to get terrible heartburn from just drinking a glass of water, so you can imagine how bad it was when I ate spicy food or had some beers. I used to carry a big bottle of antacids around with me wherever I went, and ate around a half bottle a day just to keep the heartburn reasonable. It was the worst when I was going to bed, so I would take the more powerful medicines before bed. I don’t think I have to tell you that taking these medications on a regular basis is very bad over time—it makes it so you can’t digest your food properly.

After being coerced to try the Mangosteen juice, I felt relief almost immediately. Within a week, I had abandoned the nighttime pills and half a bottle a day of antacids. I have not felt the burning sensation in my throat for over 3 months, and I haven’t taken any more antacids in that time. I have more energy, and can eat whatever I want without reaching for the antacids before and after a meal. I would recommend that anyone who suffers from heartburn try the Mangosteen juice and see if it works for them.

Mangosteen Soothes Chronic Acid Reflux Discomfort

About five years ago, I was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia, Esophageal Reflux Disease, and other problems that had developed from an extremely high acidity level in my stomach. My symptoms included acid reflux and extreme heartburn, ranging from at least three times a week minimum to every night. Many nights I would sit straight up in bed with acid burning my throat and search for anything that would help. Over the past five years, I have tried every remedy that has been offered to me. These remedies have ranged from vitamins to a change in eating habits to various prescription drugs. Each had some effect, but no remedy stopped my acid reflux during the nights. Naturally, I became concerned about what long-term effect this ritual might have on my body, but the short-term semi-relief was worth it for the time being. However, even with this everyday ritual, my acid reflux kept me leaping from bed at least twice a week on average.

I started taking mangosteen in November 2002 after seeing that my wife was experiencing some meaningful and exciting results while on the juice. I was the world's biggest skeptic of mangosteen juice as a “functional beverage,” and my original intent was to prove to myself that the effects others were seeing were the result of a placebo effect. I started myself on a regimen of three ounces per day without letting my wife know that I was taking more than the ounce she had suggested for a “wellness” program. After two weeks of being on my mangosteen experiment, I realized that I had not been waking up during the night from acid reflux during the previous week and a half! I decided to take the experiment a little further and went off all my medications without telling anyone. I wanted to see how I would feel and see if my wife would notice anything. After another two weeks passed, I told my wife about the experiment. She hadn’t noticed that I stopped taking my drugs and was quite upset with my stealthy decision until she realized that she also had not been awakened during the last several weeks by my race to find relief in the night. I have now been on mangosteen for a little over two months. I haven’t taken any other medications, and I have not experienced the many effects of acid reflux disease that I used to suffer weekly and sometimes nightly. Had I not experienced this for myself, I never would have believed it was possible. But mangosteen worked for me!

Turn Off the Reflux

After studying decades of research, I believe the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of the mangosteen represent the single greatest step we can take to help prevent the five major diseases: heart disease, cancer, stroke, lung disease and diabetes. My path to the mangosteen begins way back in my youth. After one particularly successful swimming meet, the losing team ‘celebrated’ by throwing everyone into the pool. One of my opponents landed directly on my head while I was standing straight up. The damage to my neck and upper back has haunted me every day since. I was 14 at the time. Aspirin was the only medication available for my pain, and I used a lot, every day. My symptoms never went away completely, and I had to take medications every night or else I’d be up at two or three in the morning. I’ve made countless trips to all-night convenience stores to get emergency medications when I’ve run out or been away on a trip. Then a friend introduced me to mangosteen and told me that after taking mangosteen, his reflux had gone away. I spent six weeks devouring the research on the fruit and nutrition before I ever devoured any mangosteen juice. After eight days of taking 1.5 ounces of mangosteen juice each morning, I decided to see if it was working. I set my pill on the nightstand with an emergency roll of Tums and a glass of water. I went to sleep. The next night, as I was getting ready for bed, I noticed the pill still on my nightstand! I didn’t even realize that I hadn’t taken it. Eight months have now passed without being chained to a medication, and without risking the hundreds of side effects of each of the drugs. Eight months with complete remission of my symptoms, for the first time in 25 years. I now believe that my reflux disease has probably saved my life. Without the reflux, I might be tempted to skip my daily mangosteen juice. Two out of every three of us will die from one of the top five fatal diseases. We now know that free radical damage and chronic inflammation underlie each of these diseases. With the powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of the xanthones in the mangosteen, I believe I am actively decreasing my chance of contracting one of the these diseases.

My training as a psychotherapist in private practice inclined me to be very reserved in my expectations of what a fruit juice could do for someone such as I, who had rather serious and complex health problems. However, I found the vast amount of medical and scientific research over the past 35 years to be extremely impressive. After taking this juice I realized that the Gastric Esophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) from which I’d suffered since 1985 had totally abated. Having taken medication nightly for more than six years, I have now taken no medication since late July 2004. I have had no incidents of reflux and I now eat anything I want.
